Dr. S. J. Phillips Public School has served the community for 92 years. As well as the surrounding area we are the holding school for the Windfield Farm Development and have a population of 710 students from Full Day Kindergarten to Grade 8. The Dr. Phillips staff continue to work together to make it an optimal learning environment. This year our focus for learning is to continue to provide a strong literacy program and encourage our students to be critical thinkers. Special emphasis this year will be placed on our balanced math program. All teachers will be helping students reach their grade expectations by teaching through small guided groups and providing a variety of interventions when students are experiencing difficulties. We will also continue to focus on problem solving rich tasks and helping our students to improve their understanding and communication of mathematical thinking. Staff and students will continue to increase their knowledge and use of technology to enhance learning and increase student engagement.
We strive to provide programming that meets the needs of all our students and addresses Ministry expectations. We offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities for our students in the arts, athletics, and with our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic) activities. We are a school focusing on leadership skills (based on Covey's Seven Habits) and partnerships within the Oshawa community. Our School Community Council works with us to support student learning and to provide a caring environment for our student community.
Phillips is a place where students, staff and community work together to help our students "Soar to Success"
