The purpose of an SCC is, through active participation of parents, to improve pupil achievement and enhance the accountability of the education system to parents. This purpose is achieved through making recommendations to the principal of the school. An SCC is comprised of parents, a member of the school's teaching staff, a member of the school's non-teaching staff , the principal and an appointed community member. The SCC must meet a minimum of four times a year. Usually meetings are scheduled monthly. ALL parents are welcome to attend SCC meetings; however, only elected members of the council may vote.
The executive is comprised of a chairperson ( or co-chairs), vice-chair, secretary and treasurer as well as any other officer established by the council through the by-laws.
