DDSB Announces New Superintendents of Education – Andrea McAuley and Heather Mundy

Educators Andrea McAuley and Heather Mundy have been appointed to the team of Superintendents of Education at the Durham District School Board (DDSB). Ms. McAuley will be appointed to the interim position of Superintendent of Education/Inclusive Education and Ms. Mundy to the interim position of Superintendent of Education/Family of Schools.

"The Board of Trustees is happy to extend a welcome to both Andrea McAuley and Heather Mundy in their new leadership roles as Superintendents of Education," states Board Chair Michael Barrett.

"Andrea has long been a highly valued member of our team. Her commitment to public education, and her passion for Special Education shines brightly in all she does. Andrea has unique insight into students and families in Durham," says Barrett.

Heather will continue to lead, inspire excellence, and support continuous improvement in her new role as Superintendent/Family of Schools. Historically, she has brought passion and commitment to all she does, and this will no doubt continue in her new, expanded role," says Barrett.

DDSB Director of Education Lisa Millar is thrilled to add McAuley and Mundy to her senior team.

"Andrea is a proven leader with a track record of building relationships, developing people, setting direction and following through. She has a history of applying careful thought processes, initiating change where change is needed, and making a difference," says Millar.

"Throughout her time at the DDSB, Heather has demonstrated her leadership and a unique ability to foster trusting relationships based on mutual respect. Her ability to empower staff, students and communities will allow her, and her Family of Schools, to thrive."

Most recently, Andrea excelled in her role as the Special Education Officer for Oshawa schools. As an educator with over twenty years of experience, she has supported student success and well-being through both school and system roles. She has extensive experience as a principal within DDSB prior to becoming Special Education Officer in 2015. As a principal, she was honoured to receive the prestigious Canada's Outstanding Principal Award in recognition of her dedication to students, families and community partnerships.

Currently, Heather has been DDSB's Special Education Officer for Ajax Family of Schools.  Within this role, she has been committed to building the capacity of staff to differentiate student programs, tailor interventions, and engage parent and families to support success for all. She has over 25 years of experience as an educator, with over 8 years spent as Principal at DDSB schools.

These Superintendent appointments are effective December 1, 2018.
