The staff and students of Duffin's Bay Public School are proud to be an Eco-School. In 2015-2016, we received Silver Certification for our initiatives and practices throughout the year. Learning inquiries in environmental education, focusing on biodiversity, stewardship and sustainability, along with waste management initiatives such as waste-free/boomerang lunches, green practices with recycling and energy management all support our certification. We are also proud of our many whole-school and community initiatives, such as the creation of our Outdoor Classroom, participation in the Ajax Mayor's 20-Minute Clean-Up, Earth Hour, Tree Planting for the Town of Ajax and excursions to Outdoor Education facilities.
Our School Ground Greening Committee, comprising staff, students and community members, along with the School Community Council, are proud to partner with Toyota Evergreen and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation to create our Outdoor Classroom, which was installed in November, 2015.
Our "outdoor classroom" provides an outdoor learning
space for all of our students, which enhances the learning experience by providing a space for exploration, inquiry, and contributes to the physical,
emotional and mental well-being of our students. Our students are able to deepen their learning experiences. We have
installed trees, seating areas and native plants. Classes use the space to
learn and explore. The project continues to bring our community together around a common focus and provides a welcoming space
for families to learn together.
