Before School and After School
Teachers are in the school yard each day from 8:40 am, at each recess, and at 12:30 pm. ard supervision begins at 8:40 a.m. For the safety of your children, please do not send them to school before that time. Prior to that time staff members are not assigned supervision and are busy preparing for their day, coaching, or in meetings. We encourage you to make childcare arrangements with a neighbour, friend, or another parent instead of having the students unsupervised on the school yard. We want everyone to be safe at all times.
We would ask that students not arrive at school earlier than 8:45 for the morning, and 12:30 for the afternoon unless there is a previously organized school activity. The school day is outlined in the agenda. If the weather is inclement, the students will be admitted at 8:45 am and 12:30 pm, and will remain indoors for recesses. All students are expected to leave the school upon dismissal, and go immediately to their homes or babysitters, so that parents and guardians are aware of their whereabouts.
Students are to enter and exit the school using their designated entrance points, leaving the front door free for our guests and students who arriving with specialized transportation.
Parents and Caregivers
Parents and caregivers, we are requesting that you say good-bye at the door and do not come into the school or to the classroom. This includes before school, at lunch, or at dismissal. If you need to pass on information to the teacher, please put a note in your child’s agenda or call the office to set up an appointment. Instructional time is valuable time and we ask you to respect it.

Safe Welcome Program
In keeping with our commitment to put safety first in our schools, and as part of the Ministry of Education Safe Welcome Program, a protocol is now in place for all DDSB elementary schools.  The new safety feature has an access system including security cameras and buzzers. In keeping with the new protocol, visitors to the school will be required to contact the school office by the front door buzzer to gain access to the school during class time.  Once admitted to the school, visitors are requested to report to the office to sign the visitor’s book upon arrival and sign out when leaving.
Accordingly, the front doors of Duffin’s Bay Public School are locked at 9:05 a.m., re-opened during the lunch period, and then locked again until 3:25 p.m.
Families can assist by helping children plan ahead to have everything they need for the school day (lunches, homework, outdoor clothing).  When emergencies arise, families are welcome to visit the school and press the white button to be welcomed into our school.
