BACK TO DEPARTMENTS

The CWS department includes geography, civics, history, economics, politics and law courses.   Students taking geography courses will learn about the world by studying events and issues concerning society and the natural world. Topics include the environment, world disasters, world events, and travel. Students take a look at why the world is the way it is, and how it works and maintains itself.

Students who take geography courses may be well suited for post-secondary education and future careers in government, the environment, urban planning, and teaching.

History students gain knowledge about how significant events and people in the past have shaped the present.  In some courses, they examine political and economic aspects of our society. Events at home and all over the world have had an impact upon us, and are the focus of our studies.

History will help prepare students for post-secondary studies in law, business, teaching, and the humanities.  Careers such as archaeologist, biographer, criminologist, economist, editor, sociologist, genealogist, journalist, lawyer, lobbyist, curator, political scientist, teacher or writer are all possibilities for students of history.
