This day promotes the recognition of the francophone community's contribution to the development of Ontario's culture, history, society, economy and political structure. Over 600,000 francophones reside in Ontario, representing the largest French-language community in Canada, outside of Quebec.

The Durham District School Board (DDSB) currently has 8,000 students participating in French Immersion at 17 elementary schools and eight secondary schools. As well, we have 27,000 students participating in the Core French program. We are proud of our programs that promote bilingualism in this province.

There will be a short student-led presentation in the gym, which will include the singing of O Canada and Mon Beau Drapeau, an explanation of the parts of the Franco-Ontarian flag, and a slideshow representing Franco-Ontarian culture. Afterwards, we will move outside to raise the Franco-Ontarian flag.
