Child Care

Durham District School Board (DDSB) provides a variety of child care options for children from the age of 0 to 12. We offer these programs in schools throughout the region to make it convenient for you to find reliable childcare.

Child care program needs survey

Fill out the early years child care survey to express interest in DDSB child care. Viability of the program is determined by parent surveys and child care registration nights at schools. Contact your local school for more information.

Child care programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers

Kindergarten extended care programs

The Kindergarten extended care program provides before and after school care for children in Kindergarten (ages 4 and 5). To find out which DDSB schools offer this program, check out our:

Fees

For the 2019 to 2020 school year, fees range between $24.50 and $29.55. Fees will vary on PA days and other holidays.

Before and after school programs

The before and after school program is for children between the ages of 6 and 12. These programs are 10 month school year programs. Read our brochures to find a before and after school program in your area:

For the 2019 to 2020 school year, fees range between $23.50 and $27.00. Fees will vary on PA days and other holidays.

After school recreational programs

After school recreational and summer programs are for children between the ages of 6 and 12. These programs focus on:

  • Physical activity
  • Healthy eating and nutrition education
  • Wellness and personal health
  • Help with homework
  • Free play time
  • Arts and crafts

Talk with the school's provider about availability and fees.

If a school's child care provider is cancelled, the extended day program will be offered by the DDSB or another child care provider in the school. The fees, days and times of operation may change. If the DDSB chooses to operate an extended day program, the fee would be $30 per day.

Child care subsidies

Apply for a child care subsidy through the Region of Durham. You can fill out an online application or call to get on the wait list.
