There are many things that parents can do to help their children grow as readers. Reading aloud to your child is the best way to get him/her interested in reading. Not only is it fun for the family, it will help your child learn what reading is about.

Be sure to read all kinds of materials - stories, informational books, newspapers, comics, etc. Read with excitement. Use different voices for characters. Use your child's name instead of a character or use a puppet and act out the story. Subscribe to a children's magazine - they will love receiving mail.
