Adult and Continuing Education

Durham Continuing Education (DCE) is the centre for adult and continuing education within the Durham District School Board.

Continuing Education is for adults and youth who want to:

  • take courses or certificate programs

  • upgrade their skills or high school credits 

  • enhance their current school program 

There are programs for day school and night school as well as distance education. This includes correspondence and eLearning courses where you can learn from home.

DCE services include:

  • Training programs in career pathways (e.g., Building Maintenance and Environmental Services, Hospitality, Logistics and Distribution, and Office Administration)
  • School, career and personal counselling
  • Mature Student Evaluation (MSE)
  • Help with college and university applications
  • Community agency referrals
  • Adult literacy and numeracy
  • Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
  • International languages
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Language Instructions for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)
  • Language Training for Apprenticeships (LTA)
  • Enhanced Language Training (ELT) for foreign trained professionals
  • Career assessment
  • Document evaluation
  • Workplace preparation
  • Local community credit programs for residents in Uxbridge, Port Perry, Beaverton and Cannington
