1.0 All Instrumental Music students shall have access to a Board-owned musical instrument on a shared basis. Parents must be clearly informed of this.

2.0 No fee is to be charged to students enrolled in Instrumental Music courses, or their parents, for the use of Board-owned instruments or musical equipment, with the exception of the purchase of reeds.

3.0 Schools shall not rent Board-owned musical instruments to parents. Schools shall not assume any liability for the rental of musical instruments by parents through a local supplier.

4.0 Rental of musical instruments to supplement student learning is at the discretion of individual students or their parents, and is to be arranged directly by the family through a local supplier.

5.0 Students and their parents must be informed that the rental of musical instruments is not mandatory for student success in the Music program.

6.0 For purposes of hygiene, students or their parents may wish to purchase a mouthpiece. They must be advised that procedures for students to cleanse mouthpieces are regularly followed in each Music class.

7.0 To facilitate the rental of instruments by students or their parents through local suppliers, schools may provide for:

1. the dissemination of specific written information to families on behalf of local suppliers concerning the 
   availability and rental price of instruments.
2. the collection of cheques in the amount required to cover rental costs made payable to the local supplier. Note: Schools shall not accept, or deposit in school accounts, fees for the rental of music instruments.
3. the distribution of instruments to students whose families have made rental arrangements through a local supplier.
