1.0 It shall be the policy of The Durham District School Board to adopt a leadership role in:

1. empowering and supporting student, parent, community, and educator partnerships in developing 
   classroom, school, and community environmental actions;
2. developing ecologically sound purchasing practices;
3. reducing the use of toxic substances in Board programs and operations;
4. providing staff with opportunities to understand, develop, and implement the cross-curricular nature of 
   environmental issues;
5. conservation of energy and water resources;
6. placing environmental literacy into the content and methodology of instructional programs in all divisions;
7. facilitating sound waste management procedures (reduce, reuse, recycle);
8. promoting the retention and development of natural landscaping and wildlife habitats on Board property.
