1.1 The DDSB is committed to providing learning environments, services and workplaces that are welcoming,
respectful, safe, inclusive, equitable, accessible and free from harassment and discrimination. This procedure must be carried out in a manner that is consistent with this commitment and the DDSB’s legal duty to accommodate to the point of undue hardship and to proactively identify, prevent and address potential discrimination and harassment under the Ontario Human Rights Code and/or the Occupational Health and Safety Act
1.2 In Policy/Program Memorandum No. 164, the Ministry of Education mandated that School boards develop a process to obtain and acknowledge the receipt of exemption forms by which written requests may be submitted to seek an exemption from the minimum synchronous learning requirements. Such a request may be made by parents/guardians or by students who are 18 years of age or older, and students who are 16 or 17 years of age but have withdrawn from parental control.
1.3 A request to be exempt from the minimum synchronous learning requirements shall be submitted by email in the form attached as Appendix “A” to the student’s Principal. A response to the request confirming the nature and extent of the exemption shall be delivered by the Principal to the requester within 5 school days.
