Substance Abuse - Students Policy
Positive School Climates, Mental Health & Well-Being
1.0 Positive physical and mental health are foundational factors for a student’s academic achievement and well-being.
1.1 The Board recognizes that the consumption of alcohol, illegal drugs and/or other intoxicants undermines students' well-being and interferes with their ability to learn (refer to Regulation - Substance Abuse: Students).
1.2 The Durham District School Board does not tolerate the use or abuse of alcohol, illegal drugs and/or other intoxicants within its jurisdiction.
1.3 The Board acknowledges its responsibility in promoting an intoxicant free learning environment by supporting:
- Education to promote healthy lifestyles and to prevent problems related to the use of alcohol, illegal drugs and/or other intoxicants
- Early identification and intervention for students experiencing problems with alcohol, illegal drugs and/or other intoxicants
- The use of bias-free progressive disciplinary measures when dealing with incidents involving the use of alcohol, illegal drugs and/or other intoxicants
