J. Clarke Richardson Collegiate Awarded Unified Champion School “All Province” Banner

J. Clarke Richardson Collegiate proudly celebrated a historic milestone, as the school was presented with Ontario’s first ever Unified Champion School (UCS) “All Province” Banner, the highest recognition awarded by Special Olympics Ontario for excellence in inclusive sport and school‑wide engagement.

The banner presentation was attended by students, staff, coaches, and community members for a morning of celebration and sport. The event also featured demonstrations of Unified basketball, soccer, and floor ball, showcasing the inclusive athletic programs that helped the school earn this incredible honour.

Special Olympics Ontario has also recognized J. Clarke Richardson for the remarkable leadership shown by its students, highlighting the school’s vibrant culture of sportsmanship, mentorship, and friendship – qualities that demonstrate how deeply students have embraced the values of Unified Sport and helped shape a community where everyone feels they belong.

The “All Province” Banner recognizes schools that demonstrate the following principles:

• Inclusive Sports & Health by ensuring students with and without intellectual disabilities participate together in meaningful athletic opportunities;
• Youth Leadership to empower students to lead inclusion initiatives;
• School Engagement fostering a school environment where every student feels valued, respected, and included.

This recognition is due to the dedication and leadership of teacher Amanda Morra, along with the many coaches, Educational Assistants, and staff who have championed Unified Sport at Richardson over the years.

“It takes an amazing team, and I am lucky to have one here,” said Morra. “Our students and colleagues have embraced Unified Sport not just as a program, but as a philosophy that celebrates belonging, teamwork, and the belief that everyone deserves a place on the team.”

J. Clarke Richardson Collegiate’s leadership in Unified Sport extends beyond the province. This year, Richardson students represented Canada at the 3x3 Basketball Unified Sport International Competition in Puerto Rico, and two students and alum will be representing Canada at the Unified Soccer World Cup this summer in Paris, France, Showcasing the strength, teamwork, and spirit of these athletes on the world stage.
