DDSB Students Showcase Talents at Provincial Competition

Whitby, ON - Durham District School Board (DDSB) secondary and elementary students recently competed at their respective Provincial Skills Competition showcasing their passion and learned skills against the best students from across the province. 

Competitions took place at the Toronto Congress Centre on May 4 for elementary students and on May 5 for secondary students. 

Moving forward to the National Skills Competition at the secondary level will be Ethan Geng from Pickering High School, getting ready to compete in Toronto on May 28 and 29 as he showcases his knowledge and skills in the art of photography. 

DDSB students competed in 32 skills categories at Canada’s largest provincially run skills competition. 

Congratulations to our secondary medalists: 

DDSB Elementary students took home one gold and two silver medals. 

The team from Coronation Public School of Magathi, Ayesha, Rehath, and Trishna took home gold in the Character Animation category for Grades 4-6. In the Technology category, students Sathana, Aadhya, Evanya and Sreshta from Sir Samuel Steele Public School attained a silver for Grades 4-6, and Viola Desmond Public School students Aliyah, Farzad, Krithik, and Christine placed silver in the same category for Grades 7-8. 

Teams from William Dunbar, Quaker Village, Sherwood, Michaëlle Jean, Village Union and Pringle Creek public schools also took part in the competitions and had the opportunity to learn more by taking in hands-on workshops.

We are extremely proud of all our student competitors as they excelled brightly while representing their respective schools and the DDSB. Their success is a testament to their commitment and the incredible support from their teacher mentors at their school.
