Fees for Learning Materials and Activities Policy
Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
The Durham District School Board believes that all resident Durham District School Board students are entitled to attend a regular school day program without payment of a fee and are entitled to receive, at no cost, the materials required to meet the core curriculum expectations of a particular grade or course.
When schools choose, following consultation with the school community, to offer enhanced or optional programming:
- Parents may be asked to contribute resources in the way of time, money or materials to support these
programs or activities - Activities or events may require recovery of the cost for participation
- Fees may be appropriate in cases where schools choose to offer enhancements or supplementary learning materials beyond the core curriculum, and/or
- No student shall be held back from participating in school activities or events based on their ability to pay.
Where fees are appropriate, they should be minimized as much as possible, with the goal of supporting student participation in programs and activities regardless of individual economic circumstances.
