Murals on School Walls Procedure
Occupational Health & Safety
1.0 As a result of surveying many schools with respect to the above subject, we have derived the following guidelines:
- The appropriateness of the theme is at the discretion of the Principal.
- The duration of time that a mural should stay on a wall is maximum of 5 years. Special murals such as school logos and mottos are exceptions.
- If possible, murals should be painted on masonite panels that can be installed on the wall and removed easily at a future date.
- The type of paint will be determined by the Facilities Services, Maintenance Department, since it must be durable, washable and able to be painted over eventually.
- Murals will be maintained by the school.
- Mural location etc. will be approved by the Manager of Maintenance, in consultation with the Principal.
There is obviously flexibility in the above guidelines. The Facilities Services, Maintenance Department will cooperate with Principals to ensure that murals play an appropriate part in the appearance and presentation of the school.
