We look forward to welcoming you and your child into the Kindergarten program at the Durham District School Board (DDSB)! We know that starting Kindergarten is an important milestone in every young child’s life.

At DDSB, we are committed to ensuring that every child has a successful start to their learning journey. In collaboration with dedicated educators, engaging learning experiences, and supportive community partners, we help to ensure all children experience a positive transition and optimal learning environment.

Durham District School Board (DDSB) requires online registration for all new students entering Kindergarten. We are here to help you and your child find a school and transition into Kindergarten.

Online registration for the 2026/2027 school year will open on January 6, 2026.  Please watch the full video below for guidance on the registration process. Additional information will be shared in the coming months.

Your child must meet the following age requirements to enter Kindergarten and must be registered at their designated home school.

  1. To register for Junior Kindergarten, your child must be 4 years old by December 31 in the current year

  2. To register for Senior Kindergarten, your child must be 5 years old by December 31 in the current year”

To register a child in Kindergarten:

  1. All Kindergarten students must register at their ‘designated home school’ for the Kindergarten program. Use the school locator tool to find schools designated as the home school in your area

  2. Create a parent account  OR  Log in to your existing account

  3. Once your parent account has been created, please be sure to select the 2026-2027 school year.

Need help registering online?  Please connect with the office staff via email at the DDSB school you are registering for. Contact information for schools may be found on this website at: schooldirectory.ddsb.ca

We encourage you to register your child prior to June 1*. This will provide you with the opportunity to connect directly with the school team and help you to prepare for the first day of school in September. 

*Please note that DDSB schools are closed during the summer (July-August) - families that register after June 1 will be contacted during the last week of August.

 

All Kindergarten students must register at their ‘designated home school’ for the Kindergarten program. Please use the school locator tool to identify your home school. If your child is interested in learning in our French Immersion (FI) program, you will be able to transfer them to the closest single track FI school in the spring prior to them entering Grade One.

The Kindergarten Program at all single track French Immersion (FI) schools is no longer offered. For more information and a complete list of FI schools, view the French Immersion page on this website.

Please view the DDSB Home Schooling procedure if you choose to home school your child instead of enrolling them in Kindergarten.

Great Beginnings Start at the DDSB and three small children

Families are invited to view the collection of recordings from the DDSB’s Great Beginnings Webinar Series. These recordings provide families with helpful tips from experts, and the opportunity to learn about various topics related to the Kindergarten transition.

The recorded sessions cover a range of topics, including speech and language, social-emotional development, and fine motor development, and feature key voices from the early childhood sector. These guest presenters include some of our DDSB community partners, internal DDSB teams, and other professional organizations from the Durham Region.

These webinar recordings are intended to provide families with the tools they need to ensure their child(ren) has a successful and positive start at the DDSB!

Durham Student Transportation Services (DSTS) is responsible for the management and administration of all home to school transportation for students eligible for transportation. Please see their website for additional details on student transportation.
