Student Recognition Awards honour DDSB teens overcoming adversity

METROLAND NEWS — For 35 years, the Durham District School Board has wrapped up the school year by honouring some of its most impressive high school students through the Student Recognition Awards.

The awards focus on students who have made a significant contribution to their school community and excelled in the face of adversity.

This year, the 63 honourees didn’t get to attend an awards evening, but still received a plaque and congratulatory letter. 

Here are some of their stories of overcoming obstacles — and their words of advice for those still on the high school journey.
