Posting for Associate Director of Education, Academic Services

The Durham District School Board (DDSB) invites applications from qualified candidates for the above position, which will begin as soon as possible following appointment by the Board of Trustees.

The Associate Director of Academic Services is responsible for the Leadership portfolio, Operations, and duties as assigned. The Associate Director will oversee and provide leadership to a team of Family of Schools Superintendents. The Associate Director through the leadership portfolio is responsible for the Aspiring Leadership program, Growth Track program, On-boarding and the training of Principals and Vice Principals. The Operations portfolio includes responsibility for staffing at both elementary and secondary levels. Experience leading teams and managing system level change initiatives are assets. Executive level Superintendent experience is essential for this role.

The position involves working with a committed team of educational leaders within this school district of 71,000 students, 12,000 full and part-time staff, and 133 schools and learning centres. As part of the senior administrative team, the successful candidate will provide direction, monitor, guide and implement processes and structures that will enable our Board to meet its goals as outlined in Ignite Learning, the multi-year strategic plan.

QUALIFICATIONS: All candidates must hold Ontario Supervisory Officer qualifications.

The successful candidate will display the following characteristics: superior interpersonal, communication, team-building and management skills, systems thinking, proven track record in community engagement, strong evidence of student achievement and system success, secondary and elementary school leadership, and a demonstrated change management skill set. A focus on equitable and inclusive practices is an additional asset relating closely to the Board’s core priorities.

The above criteria will be used by the selection team to develop a shortlist of candidates to be interviewed.

In accordance with Board Policy 4112.1, the Hiring Committee will be composed of Trustees and Superintendents.
