Durham Integrated Arts Camp (DIAC)

2022 DIAC logo Durham Integrated Arts Camp (DIAC) is an intensive Arts exploration opportunity for Durham District School Board (DDSB) students with a passion for Music, Visual Art, Music Theatre and Dance. The philosophy of this camp focuses upon the immersion of students in a creative outdoor culture where learning in, about, and through the arts encourages each child's "voice" to be heard, fosters a culture of inclusion, and celebrates the diverse talents and skills that every child can nurture in this unique educational setting. Supporting these goals is an energetic, talented, and dedicated DIAC team which includes DDSB teachers, professional artists, and guest artists. This creative learning environment provides students with opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of their art, their abilities, and their lives by making authentic personal and intrapersonal connections among the arts disciplines.

New for 2022

DIAC will re-launch the program after a COVID enforced hiatus in the 2020 and 2021 school year.  Due to the absence of this program, the opportunity to re-evaluate the program philosophy and delivery of the Integrated Arts has been undertaken.  Program, safety protocols, accommodations, leadership, staffing, and logistics have all been re-visited with the idea of how we can make the DIAC experience best align with DDSB priorities to serve our diverse students within the DDSB.

  • DIAC will occur in September 2022.  Camp has traditionally operated in June.  Based on a September operation, students from grade 7 to 12 will be eligible to participate
  • New camper safety protocols established in consultation with the Ontario Camping Association (OCA), Camp White Pine, and Public Health
  • Six daily program sessions striking a balance between an arts focus major discipline, opportunities for self-selected electives, and large camp arts programme experiences. Previously there were 4 sessions daily.
  • Implementation of a ‘study hall’ period for all students while at camp to support maintaining their academic progress while at camp
  • Camp wide leadership focus for all students (emphasis on taking the DIAC “spirit” back and having a positive community-based impact at their home schools.
