Opportunities to be a part of the Parent Involvement Committee

happy mom and childThe Durham District School Board’s Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) is calling for applications for volunteer Parent Representatives from each of the following areas:  Pickering, Whitby, Brock/Uxbridge/Scugog.  Expressions of interest for the role of Community Representative will also be accepted.  Successful applicants will commit to a two-year term.

The PIC’s primary role is to support, encourage and enhance parent engagement at the board level to improve student achievement and well-being. This purpose is achieved primarily by providing advice on parent engagement to the board, communicating with and supporting School Councils and undertaking activities to help parents support their children’s learning at home and at school.

The PIC strives to maintain a balanced representation from across the region. Regular PIC meetings are held four times per school year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Parents/Guardians qualify to be appointed to the PIC if they have children attending a DDSB school.
  • Any parent or guardian who is employed by the Board must inform the committee of such employment.
  • Active involvement in the school community is an important consideration.
  • Community Representatives need not have students in DDSB schools.
