Requirements for positions

Requirements vary by position.

Educational Assistants

The minimum hiring requirement is a secondary diploma or equivalent, and experience working with individuals with special needs. However, most candidates that are considered have post-secondary diplomas/degrees in the areas of Child and Youth Care, Educational Assistant, Developmental Service Worker, etc.

Designated Early Childhood Education (DECE)

  • Early Childhood Education diploma or equivalent
  • Current registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators

Custodial/Maintenance

  • The minimum hiring requirement for the position of Custodian is a secondary diploma or equivalent
  • The qualifications for Maintenance positions vary based on Certificate of Qualification requirements and experience

Conditions of employment

Offers of employment are conditional upon the results of any background checks conducted by DDSB (including reference checks, verification of credentials and a criminal background check with the vulnerable sector component), which must be satisfactory to DDSB in its sole discretion.

Our policy requires that a Criminal Reference Check with the Vulnerable Sector component issued within six months be presented as a condition of employment. Checks older than six months are not acceptable.
